Neil's first Car, bought with money made selling paper plates at Kinks Shows.

Neil's second car, a gift from his grandfather, Shel Talmy.

Neil's Summer job, escorting mud-wrestling contestants into the shower and holding the soap.

Yes, Neil Young was crazy back 'then, too.

Okay, where was I? Oh, yes, the reason why Ray Davies wrote Preservation Act 1 and 2 was financial. You see, Neil had needed money to buy a car, and thought that one way he could get the money would be to take a 'short' position in the Kinks stock on the open market. He figured that two obscure rock opera-type albums wouldn't sell well, so he'd invest in The Kinks stock and, then, when the stock went down, he'd sell and make a killing!!

Well, Neil got confused and wound up somehow doing the opposite, and, just as the stock was falling from those two albums, and he wound up having to work as a rocket scientist.

He got the job because of his name, which actually is "Rocket P. Scientist Ottenstein," and the US government made a mistake and hired him based on his name rather than his actual knowledge of the subject.

So that, my friends, is how Neil Ottenstein came to be such a friend to The Kinks, and how he became a rocket scientist.
