My friend from Ohio gave me an address to get on this list. I had just
purchased the Konk Remasters on CD, from Muswell Through their last Arista album
a couple of years ago. But the Kinks had my soul: lock, stock, and barrel in
1973 when I bought The Kink Kronickles circa vinyl 1973.
I didn't know it then. But, with the advent of CD technology and the
Internet that I could communicate with my fellow Kink fans; and learn,
unsurprisingly, even more. And to my rapt dismay that I had totally missed the
flowering of the Kinks pre-Muswell Hillbillies. Hey, what did I know?
Without Neil and The Kinks list I'd still be sitting here twiddling my
thumbs wondering about a lot of songs and as much about the Kinks' catalog. And,
indeed have been hopelessly bereft of the enlightening scholarship, excellent
commentary, and shared community of the August list members. All of which in no
small part is due to Neil's stewardship of The Kinks list.
And so, all I can say is: Thanks Neil! Without this list I'd still be some
ninny in the USA non-comprehending of the nuances of Kinkdom and having to rely
on my own solipsistic conclusions. Not that I am parochial. No. Indeed. But the
fact that this list exists and endures and continues to fascinate(even after
I've acquired the entire Pye import early-mid-Sixties Kinks); Can only be
attributed to the clear vision, purpose, and steady hand of Neil(There is no
short version of this. So don't ask.).
All the best Neil. I think that your mission for this list has come to
fruition. Sure there is more to come. The news of this and more is partially due
to you. Down a Guinness(or two, or more?) for me!
