Bud Stafford

This is a tribute long overdue, but well deserved.  My big thanks to Neil
for creating the KPS Mailing List, but more importantly, for keeping it
going day after day over all these years.  This mailing list has lasted
longer than most marriages these days, and it is truly a community of a
diverse group of people from all over the globe that share a common bond of
music - the music of the Kinks, but much more than that.  Sure, there's the
occasional flame war that breaks out, but one of Neil's under-rated skills
is his ability to moderate those occurrences and quickly douse the flames.
I've had many a great off-list conversations via email with many KPS members
and have had the pleasure of exchanging tapes, cds, books and friendships
over the years.  I have had the pleasure of corresponding, meeting, dining
and enjoying live performances with the likes of Theresa (Daisy - hi
Theresa!), Mitch, Jim, Janet, Julia, Sharon, Brad, Miriam (I still have
those tapes of "Kinky Thoughts"!), Jerry and many others.  I have my bumper
sticker from Frank.  I have my  KPS  "I'm Not Like Anybody Else" tee shirt.
And I have all these virtual friendships that have been made from this
community.

Most memorable for me was in 1997 when I lost a very good friend of mine, a
fellow Kinks fan.  I posted an account of our sharing a Ray "Storytellers"
show together and how I had quoted "Days" in giving his eulogy.  The emails
of support that I received from that, both in the list and privately, helped
to lift my spirits in what was a difficult time for me.

I've been on the list since....I don't even know exactly when.  1992? 1993?
1994?  I think I became aware of the list by stumbling across a list of rock
and roll lists.  This one caught my eye, of course, because of my love of
the Kinks and my pleasant surprise to see something organized by like minded
fans.  I signed up for a couple of others at that time, such as Pink Floyd,
but they soon dropped by the wayside because I wasn't enamored of the tone
or content I was seeing.  But KPS has survived and thrived.  It's amazing to
think of how long I've been on the list (I'm a bit older, a bit grayer but
still rocking!), and while there are sometimes long gaps in my contributing,
I always read and often get news of Kinks-related happenings that I wouldn't
otherwise be aware of.

Neil, I offer my thanks and total respect for the dedication you have put
into moderating this list.  Your efforts have truly gone above and beyond
the call of duty.  You rock!

Best regards,
Bud Stafford
