The Kinky2 - Henny Stahli and Herman Gombert

Hi Neil,

I remember the start of the Digest as if it was yesterday. By that time I was very busy with the Dutch Kinks fan club. Always trying to get information for the fanzine. It was very hard to get information in those days. Fortunatley we had a very good contact with the record company. And always just before the release of a new CD we got the album on tape. But we all know how long it took between new Kinks releases! Other contacts were Sara at Konk and Larry Page.Who was always available once a month to talk a half an hour on the phone to tell me the latest Kinks issues.  But there was never enough real news to put in the fanzine. Then all of a sudden there was the digest. News and rumours from all over the world in one email. In the beginning I was  very jealous and suspicious too. Is this the end for my magazine? But after a while I soon found out we better stop with the good work in Holland. Everything you wanted to know about The Kinks was on the Digest. From all over the world.

Today every time there is a new digest in my mailbox I stop working and start reading.  As a Kinks fan I thank you very much for all the work you put in your Digest. I don’t know if it lasts another 3000 mails but I sure hope so.

ThanX.

Herman Gombert

For Neil:

I guess it was around 1993/1994 when I first found out about the Digest, run by Neil.

I was at the job and we had just computerized our office with some Apple computers, the SE-30! Still got one at home. Internet was ready to be explored! Those were the days!

Needless to say I started surfing the Net (very exciting for someone like me, not familiar with computers) and a whole new world was opening for me.

I was of course only interested in Kinks-related items, so it was no wonder I ended up with Neil’s Digest!

Now I can say I never missed a single Digest in all these years. Truly. Read them still every day, make a contribution every now and then, made a lot of new friends in this virtual space, got my daily updates on whatever the Kinks concerned. What a luxury! And was happy. Very happy.

And happy with it I still am. It gave (and gives) me the opportunity to spread my thoughts, but also to announce releases and performances of “The Kinky2”, the Dutch acoustical tribute to the Kinks.

Neil, I deeply appreciate all you’ve done to keep this kinky bunch of Kinks-freaks together through all these years.

I even think The Kinks themselves and all other varieties (solo Ray & solo Dave, The Kok’s, etc.) can be glad, that even in heavy times or silent times, through your Digest the kinky flames kept on burning in Kinkdom.

I’m not a Kink, but I’m one of “The Kinky2” and I salute you!

Henny
