Kate Hunter
Neil,
How can one express their gratitude to someone who has been
responsible for bringing together so many Kinks fans. Your tireless efforts are
appreciated by me and all who read this. I searched for my first post and found
it was Digest #325 on July 1, 1996, although I quietly lurked for a few months
before posting. To sum up what the Digest has meant to me without rivaling the
content of “War and Peace” will be hard, but I’ll try.
When I got online for the first time, I typed in “The Kinks”
and found quite a list of rather racy sites; but along with the Kinky sites were
a few true Kinks links. I clicked on the Kinks site then run by our Billy
Blackmon and was on my way to becoming a subscriber to the Digest. Thanks to you
and your efforts, I was able to find tour dates of which I was totally unaware
and went to see Ray at the TLA in Philly in October, 1996. There I met my first
friends from the Digest, Jerry Birenz and Yoshi, and would later meet more
“posters” after the show. The following day, I drove back to Philly to see Ray
at an appearance at Tower Records. There I met a fanatical fan with a Kinks
license plate around his neck, and so began a long friendship with our FranK
Lima.
I could probably fill a page with all of the great friends I
have made through this Digest, but would hate to feel I have left anyone out. So
many of these friends have been so very giving of themselves, from
accommodations (Jill and Lee) to precious memorabilia (Paul, tRAcY and others).
Some of the memorable moments which came about as a direct result of this Digest
were the “Costume Party” we did in an AOL chat room, travelling to the West
Coast to see 3 Dave shows in 3 nights, my iron-clad friendship with Jill in
spite of our occasional differences in opinion, meeting Olga AND Pete Quaife in
Atlantic City, and, oh so many more.
I was very brave and included a photo which I call “Now and
Then”. I can’t believe the 2 images are 11 years apart.
Thank you, Neil, for all you have done for the Kinks
Kommunity. It will truly be an honor to meet you face to face one of these days
(we only live about 3 hours from one another).
